- Summary:
- A new method to rapidly determine extrusion failure in elastomeric composites under uniaxial compression has been developed. Repetitive data substantiates the technique's high accuracy and its capacity to measure the stresses at which maximum compaction density and extrusion failure occur in the composite. The method has been successfully used to assess extrusion failure at room and elevated temperatures in a number of elastomeric composites of varying density, structure, and chemical composition. This paper introduces the apparatus, called the Extrusion Failure Tester (EFT), describes the procedure to evaluate material failure in elastomeric composite products, and discusses the concepts on which the method is based
