- Summary:
- One method of particulate trap regeneration involves the use of soot ignition temperature-reducing substances. With such oxidants injected into the trap, soot combustion can be induced at exhaust gas temperatures as low as 210°C.Practical application of this method depends on extremely even distribution of the oxidizing agent over the filter-active surface and careful optimization of the quantity to be injected according to oxidant properties, trap load and exhaust gas flow, temperature and oxygen concentration.Further efforts are necessary to reduce regeneration frequency as well as oxidant consumption. The search for alternative oxidant composition is continuing in an attempt to achieve these goals and alleviete any environmental concerns
