Summary:
A new twisted nematic (TN) technology based on a modulated cell thickness is described. By comparing electrooptical properties, this new M-TN technology is shown to overcome most of the problems of standard TN cells in the negative mode. It is demonstrated that M-TN displays offer improved contrast and viewing angle and a neutral grey background colour over a wide range of temperatures and viewing directions. Some predestined fields of use are discussed
