- Summary:
- This paper describes a technology Co produce large-area auto components with improved mechanical properties) especially impact strength, but still retaining BMC's merits. After three years of trials, we developed a new long fiber reinforced high impact composite molding system for thermoset injection molding. (LCM System)Our system combines unique design of a new type injection machine with a novel formulation and manufacturing process of special BMC that includes unsaturated polyester resin and long glass fiber reinforcement, designed to maximize retention of long fiber length during processing. This system has nearly equal cycle-time and results in less fiber breakage compared with a conventional injection process, thus produces parts with better flexural modulus, impact strength and class-A surface needed for auto exterior body panels, based on trials with several molds for auto components
