Summary:
Electronic databases are now seen as part of every corporation's future. Electronic databases are now being created and used for describing corporation's financial conditions, to doing their banking and for the creation, design and manufacturing of their products. In looking at the problem for corporations, one must look at gathering the existing product information and somehow getting it into a database that is a useful Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM) system. This process of gathering the existing drawings is being tackled by several new enterprises today. The products of these enterprises range in capabilities from simply gathering an electronic image of a drawing, to creating an accurate, intelligent, and checked CAD/CAM database which is fully compatible with CIM technology. This paper discusses the software system known as the M-4200 system which is used for the conversion of drawings to an intelligent, accurate, and checked CAD/CAM database
