Summary:

This paper describes the technical issues regarding the Digital Map Compact Disc (CD), called CD Information, which has been released in conjunction with the Electro Multivision system in the 1987 model Toyota Crown. This CD contains data files of road maps, highway guides and Toyota dealer informations for all of Japan.First, we introduce the hierarchy of road maps as they relate to Electro Multivision functions, eg, such as how to call up and display a map, in addition to the vehicle direction and positioning illustration.Secondly, we discuss our considerations for this CD map development program, including indexing maps, grid maps, dividing files, compressed drawing data, characterizing data and recognizing redundancy.Finally, we present in detail the format and contents of the CD map
