Summary:
A Cummins NTC 400, 400 hp 2100 revs/min diesel, was run with a Canadian Tar Sands derived fuel. This experimental fuel has a higher total aromatic content (40%) and lower Cetane number (35 Cn) than contemporary North American fuels, which call for a minimum 40 Cn. Steady-state testing was used for comparing the engine performance, including emissions levels, when using the Test Fuel and a reference fuel
