- Threaded fastener performance in an AZ91 die cast magnesium alloy has been evaluated from the standpoint of drive torque, strip torque and clamp load obtained at various thread engagement lengths (and percent thread engagement for self threading fasteners), Both self threading and conventional (tapped hole) fasteners were tested. Fastener sizes ranged from a No. 8 thread size to 3/8 inch. Recommended hole dimensions for use in magnesium have been proposed
