THIS PAPER WILL DISCUSS the efforts to date at the Briggs and Stratton Corporation in the application of "Just-In-Time" techniques, and the author's underlying philosophies to JIT as applied to a repetitive manufacturing environment. Briggs and Stratton manufactures gasoline and diesel engines, automotive locks, and electric motors. Current employment is in excess of 9,000 with manufacturing primarily in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area. Net sales in 1983 were $613 million with engines and parts representing 93% of our sales
