The turbocharged Formula 1 (F-1) racing engine has been the focus of significant development since 1977. Beginning in 1983, the F-1 turbocharger has undergone dramatic development to evolve from a modified commercial diesel engine turbocharger to a highly specialized product whose materials, processes and components are direct derivatives of advanced gas turbine engines.
