Summary:

Volkswagen Polo Coupés established new 24 h and 5000 km time long distance records, respectively, for the 1.5 litre class in autumn 1986. The 4-cylinder engine was fitted with a novel supercharger, driven by the engine crankshaft. Fuel injection with closed loop metering and 3 way catalysts were used to reach at high rated power and to meet today's most stringent emission standards. The performance data including the brake specific fuel consumption results are given.
