Summary:
This paper assesses the effectiveness of the stability additives allowed by the current military specification and that of several selected stability additives vised in commercial practice. Five of the six currently allowed additives were included in this evaluation as were five proprietary products used in diesel fuels and heating oils. This work emphasized tests on five selected fuels which exhibited poor or marginal stability behavior. The results of accelerated storage stability tests run under a number of test conditions with temperature being the main variable are presented. Three laboratories performed stability tests at temperatures from 43 to 95 degrees C. In addition, light scattering intensity measurements were made in conjunction with the gravimetric measurements. Finally the effect of additives on selected fuel properties which might be altered by addition of the tested additives was determined
