- Summary:
- This paper describes the coupling of concept modelling, automated structural optimization, and the beam section analysis code SECOLLAPSE for the automated structural optimization of thin walled beam sections for minimum weight design subject to constraints on section inertial properties, crush strength, packaging, and manufacturability. Methodology for determination of loads generated in a section by a simulated crush loading of its vehicular application is developed. The technology presented was applied to the structural optimization of a typical vehicle rocker section for minimum weight subject to constraints on section bending stiffness and crush strength
