Summary:
A new process developed by Sherwin Williams Chemical Coatings Division now makes the in-mold coating technology attractive to small volume suppliers and permits use on virtually all types of parts, regardless of configuration. The new process, called High Pressure Injection, also expands the use of in-mold coatings to a greater number of part configurations, from simple to complex. Parts which previously have been impossible to coat due to complex part configuration and vertical walls are being successfully coated on production lines now using the High Pressure Injection Process. Again, the need for labor intensive post-mold finishing procedures can be eliminated.A detailed description of the process and required equipment will be given. Several benefits including lower equipment cost, decreased mold cycles, elimination of leveling and parallelism requirements, increased flexibility of part design, and elimination of air-entrapment will be discussed with actual production results and case histories detailed
