Summary:
The U.S. Coast Guard is having 16 new 110 foot Island Class patrol boats built by Bollinger Machine Shop and Shipyard, Incorporated of Lockport, LA. Bollinger is producing the patrol boats under license to Vosper Thornycroft (UK Limited). There are a number of propulsion system design features incorporated in the Island Class patrol boats carried over from the original Vosper design which are unique to the Coast Guard. A sampling of those features includes; Paxman Valenta 16CM main engines, underwater main engine exhausts, key less propeller shafts, Zahnradfabrik Friedrichshafen AG (ZF) reduction gears and a multiple station control system
