- Summary:
- The research program on combustion developed by RenaultVehicules Industriels in the scope of their Advanced Research Planhas resulted in implementation of very efficient calculation andanalysis means for better understanding of combustion phenomenon aswell as for speeding up engine development.Major means implemented are:.A Code for combustion analysis by going through instantmeasurement recorded on engine by data retrieval.A Code for simulating fuel spray penetration based on anassumption of air entrainment allowing to visualize spray pathwithin the chamber and to know the entrained airflow and thespecies within the spray.Calibrated on long lasting test campaigns on single andmulticylinder engines, this work resulted in development ofcombustion simulation phenomenological models, taking into accountheterogeneity of temperatures and concentrations. These models are already predictive ones as regards performanceand heat transfer, and allow to take up simulation of gaseousemissions formation (hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides and smokes)
