Summary:
A numerical optimization technique has been applied to a mathematical model of Diesel engine injection system in order to obtain its best geometrical and/or mechanical configuration yielding the highest fuel injection rate. The search for the optimal solution is performed assuming fuel injection mean rate as objective function and taking into account some constraints which characterize the operating conditions of the injection system. The proposed methodology yields a good agreement between numerical and experimental results, and its use is very appealing since it reduces remarkably the amount of experimental tests which would be needed in a conventional approach
