- Summary:
- A quality product cannot be attained by adding inspection points, statistical process controls (SPC), or control points to a poorly designed part. If the product design is not geared toward a quality product, adding inspection points serves only to sort out good parts from bad. This does not follow the concept of using SPC to monitor and maintain process and dimensional control. A quality product must start with a "Quality Design". The design must compliment the process and material used to produce the end product. Only then can process controls monitor and maintain the quality or the end product. This paper discusses the steps taken to achieve quality through design
