Summary:
Recent advances in microprocessors requires display devices capable of giving as much information as possible. For the purpose of increasing the information density, dot-matrix displays utilizing multiplex drive are generally used. But, dot-matrix LCD's are known to have restrictions in viewing angle, contrast, and operating temperature range. Application of the dot-matrix LCD's for computer terminals have been reported, where LCD's are used with positive image in reflective mode. As far as automotive use is concerned, negative image with transmissive mode is desired, because there are considerable differences in electro-optical characteristics between a positive/reflective display and a negative/transmissive one. This paper describes a consideration of dot-matrix LCD's with negative image in transmissive mode from the automotive use point of view
