- Summary:
- The requirements of an engine management strategy are wholly dependent on the market for which the vehicle is intended. Emphasis in North America is on emissions, while in Europe with less stringent emission regulations, emphasis is on more responsive drive characteristics and lower running costs. The paper outlines the evolution of an engine management stratery for use by Ford in Europe. In addition to the system developed by Ford in the United States a number of other features have been included, e.g. deceleration fuel cutoff, acceleration enrichment, twin air-meter strategy with dual spark control. With emphasis on conserving Read-Only-Memory a new idle-speed control strategy has been incorporated and also a simplified self-test strategy requiring minimum dealer equipment
