- Summary:
- The braking safety of heavy commercial vehicles depends on howthe single vehicles of a road train influence each other withrespect to braking behavior, braking efficiency and vehicleoscillations. The Automotive Engineering Department of the TechnicalUniversity of Darmstadt investigated the braking safety in aresearch project funded by the Federal Ministry of Transport andhas developed a braking safety number. To guarantee theinterchangeability of the single vehicles of a train, attention ispaid to the characteristics of the brake systems and of thevehicles. Results are presented of both many road tests and calculationswith a computer model comprising important road and vehicleparameters, such as bounce and pitch motions and driving aroundbends or downhill
