- Summary:
- A unique, flat belt, continuously variable transmission with hydraulic actuators is presented. The CVT was designed and tested under the NASA/DOE electric vehicle program. Performance of the 75 KW, 4.3:1 speed ratio range, 46 KG CVT over the 600 to 6000 input rpm range tested at efficiencies of over 90%. Design modifications can increase the speed ratio range to greater than 6:1. Development issues include sliding surface wear, belt durablity, actuation control systems, temperature effects and scaling. Potential applications include automotive, truck, off-road, aerospace, and industrial
