- Summary:
- High swelling gasketing materials are now being used in certain flange situations. This paper critiques how non-swelling gasketing materials fail in use in order to demonstrate how a controlled high swell gasket material concept is effective. A discussion of the physical and chemical make-up of a specific high swell rubber and cork composite gasket material forms a more complete understanding of how these materials function in application. Additionally, certain application problems are avoided by some redesigning of the gasket flange assembly
