Summary:
The aim of this paper is to indicate what modifications are recommended in order to make a small light-duty d.i. diesel engine suitable for alternative fuels such as vegetable oil or gasoline diesel mixtures. The paper further gives performance charts and test results which indicate that good suitability can be obtained for alternative fuels. The authors believe that the light-duty d.i. diesel will rapidly became the most common car and tractor engine and that the multi-fuel suitability is an advantage in some markets as of today and will increasingly be so.The introduction of an inexpensive and reliable engine being able to run on a wide range of alternative fuels can be of major environmental, economical and political consequence
