Application of the finite element method to engineering analysis began to propagate in the 1960's, using large mainframe computers as the vehicle for calculation. Introduction of the minicomputers during the 1970's offered an alternative approach for performing such analysis, and an alternative approach for locating the computer itself. Current microcomputers may offer yet another approach to finite element analysis and computer accessibility
