- Summary:
- The need for fast, safe, convenient, low cost urban transportation can be satisfied by a Helicopter Transportation System. A series of public-use heliports would be established around a metropolitan area to support frequent bus-type intracity operations of light turbine helicopters. Some of the heliports would also support intercity operations to relieve conventional airport surface and air traffic congestion. The Helicopter Transportation System is more cost-effective in providing quasi-rapid transit than competitive transportation alternatives. The helicopter has also become more compatible with urban requirements for safety and low noise to be regarded as an attractive alternate transportation mode for the city. Federal, state, regional and local government programs are required to establish the efficacy of urban helicopter transportation
