- Summary:
- Engine designs promoting relatively fast burning rates are appearing at an ever increasing number in both the laboratory and the marketplace. To understand the reasons for this current trend, theoretical and experimental observations of the influence of burning rate on fuel economy, emissions, power stability, and tolerance to dilution are presented. Supplementing these observations is a discussion of physical mechanisms contributing to and associated with fast burning, as obtained by diagnostic techniques and combustion modeling procedures. Finally, a number of engine design approaches for achieving fast burning rates in engines are described
