Summary:
A survey has been made of existing data on laminar flame speed and two-plate quenching distance for the propane -02-N2 system. Semi-empirical correlations have been derived to express these quantities as functions of equivalence ratio, pressure, flame temperature and residual gas fraction, over the range of parameters appropriate to engine operation. Application of the quench-distance correlation to calculations of engine hydrocarbon-emissions is discussed in the light of available experimental data on the one-wall quenching process. Also for use in hydrocarbon-emission calculations, a global reaction rate expression for engine hydrocarbon-oxidation has been obtained by fitting an Arrhenius expression to the available rate data in the temperature range 850°K <T <1250°K
