Summary:

The International Space Station (ISS) program consists of three distinct phases. Phase 1 consists of the joint Shuttle-Mir missions. Phase 2 establishes the ISS initial research capability with a three person crew permanent presence. Phase 3 completes the assembly, establishing six person crew permanent presence with multiple International Partner (IP) research facilities. Phase 1 is nearing completion, while Phase 2 is in the subsystem delivery and element integration stage.
