- Summary:
- Several different technologies are required in order to seal an automotive engine. Each joint or interface offers unique challenges for leak free performance. The process used to provide total sealing systems support on a new automotive engine program is documented in this paper. Within the process, each sealing interface is evaluated relative to cost, performance and reliability targets in order to obtain the optimum sealing mechanism for the application. The detailed analysis and results of three critical sealing areas, which illustrate the different technology challenges encountered are included
