The known performance, emissions and fuel consumption of a VW Passat Estate car with a 1.9 liter Direct Injection Turbocharged and Intercooled Diesel Engine is compared with present and future power train concepts over a typical trip distance of 20 km at speeds between 20 and 130 km/h. (12.5 to 81 MPH)The results are then used to discuss the proposals for future cars to change to electric transmission and to determine the power envelope for Series Hybrid Car Prime Movers.
