- Summary:
- The currently practiced recycling of old cars by shredders and dumping of shredder waste becomes more and more problematic due to the critical situation regarding dumping yards and the strongly increasing dumping costs. The concept developed by EVA - a joint venture study society formed by VOEST-ALPINE and MERCEDES BENZ - which considers both ecological as well as economic aspects covers reutilization of parts by special disassembly of old cars and with the downstream metallurgical recycling a concept for an old car utilization taking into account also future developments. We are in a position to present a complete recycling concept which yields a considerable reduction of wastes and emission values by utilizing the organic plastics as melting and heating energy as well as for steam generation and the binding of inorganic components in the slag. This concept considers also future developments in the automobile industry by reutilizing the input material. Our process technology is best suited for both the steelmaking as well as the production of cast iron in the foundry industry
