To solve future requirements at an optimum time and cost ratio, new concepts for modern exhaust gas laboratories have to be implemented.The decisive modules are:Beside the individual capabilities of these sub-systems, integration of all modules to a complete system and consistant communication concept are the major pre-requisites for efficient work in such a laboratory.The lecture deals gas legislation (CARB ULEV for SI-Engines, Euro 2 for Diesel Engines), trends in engine and vehicle development and the resulting demands on modern exhaust gas laboratories. Innovative solutions are illustrated by examples from the practical world
