Cargo theft is pervasive and increasing, encompassing costs of lost cargo and vehicles, insurance, and prevention costs ranging from private security forces to increased investment in truck and rail terminal facilities. To date, security design for trailers, containers, and railcars has been "low tech," but new security options are emerging.
