Summary:
AbstractFriction torque couplings transmit torque by using friction between two mating flanges in conjunction with a clamping force provided by bolts. Using anaerobic adhesives on the flanges of an existing design can provide substantial increases in joint performance and life through reduced fretting and improved strength. Alternatively, joints can be redesigned with adhesives using fewer bolts and/or smaller flanges with consequent weight and cost reductions. Joint design parameters, test results and calculation techniques for bonded friction couplings are presented with particular reference to automotive drivetrain applications
