- Summary:
- ABSTRACT:CAD/CAM technologies are rapidly reaching all industries worldwide. This has initiated the evolution of concurrent engineering in new product development. The conventional practice of moving sequentially from marketing to product engineering, prototyping and then manufacturing is now obsolete. Today, Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) allows a project team to parallel path their product development efforts and reduce the throughput time from concept to production. The most widely used rapid prototyping method using CAD/CAM/CAE technologies is 3-dimensional modeling. This paper discusses an actual hands-on approach in new product development using 3dimensional computer aided modeling and prototyping. It presents a proven Product Development Process and the various steps taken from the conceptual stage to production
