Summary:
The down cycle of the mid nineties in the aviation industry has caused the airframe manufactures and the airlines to rethink the way interiors are typically procured. The eighties (80's) and early nineties (90's) allowed the airlines and airframe manufacturers to employ large groups of in-house interior personnel. Volumes were high and virtually everyone in the aerospace industry was profitable. The competitive environment of a down market has led to considerable down-sizing and interior staffs of the past can no longer be completely supported. In order to remain competitive, the airlines and airframe manufacturers (also referred to as Original Equipment Manufacturers or OEM's), are turning to the interior suppliers to control costs while manufacturing state-of-the-art designs that meet the ever changing regulatory and quality standards imposed by the industry
