I - ABSTRACTThe aim of this paper is to discuss some of the difficulties found in the fulfilment of selected QS9000 (2a edition of '95) requirements, derived from samples of cases witnessed during 3rd party assessments carried out by Lloyd's Register Quality Assurance (LRQA) assessors from São Paulo Business Centre, in suppliers of the automotive industry including large and small organizations active in South America, particularly Brazil and Argentina.The "cases" are herewith presented with references to the applicable QS9000 requirements, usual interpretations sampled from assessed companies and the common understanding applied by LRQA assessors based on the IASG interpretations (December '97 edition), internal training and previous experiences.The opportunity to open this space in the VII Congress of SAE Brazil of 1998 is associated with the fact that presently a considerable range of respectable Brazilian companies as well as Latin-American ones, are already being submitted to their first quality system surveillances, in relation to QS9000 (2nd edition), while others are coming close to the deadlines of their initial assessments. It also has to be considered the forthcoming introduction of the 3rd edition of QS9000 officially previewed from January'99 onwards.All these factors are corroborating for the contribution to be given by the experiences referred in this paper in the view of a better understanding of the QS9000 requirements, so as to allow the preparation of the field for the implementation, maintenance and revision of the automotive supplier's quality systems, in their continuous improvements towards the new millennium
