AbstractReduction of fuel consumption and dangerous emissions remains one of the most important problems in the automobile industry. It is necessary not only to find ways of lowering harmful influence of the automobile on the environment but also to make maximum efforts to reduce ecological pressure on the nature, resulting particularly due to C02 emissions, during the whole car manufacturing cycle, beginning with ore output and procession and ending with ready-made care leaving the plant's conveyor. Increasingly rigid car toxicity and effectiveness standards stimulate the search for new solutions and a critical analysis of old ones which in the past could not be put into practice.Among the latter is the idea of piston displacement control, which in our opinion is the greatest and practically still untapped reserve of increasing engine efficiency.Till now this area lacks proper attention of both science and industry though arguments in favor of piston displacement control have long been sufficiently convincing and never questioned by anyone. These arguments are widely known; elimination (or reduction) of throttling, reduction of friction losses and, as a consequence, a drop in mechanical loses, a grain in indicator and mechanical efficiency, reduction of fuel consumption and dangerous emissions. The final result depends on a way of achieving piston displacement control
