This paper will discuss the technical design and operation of Articulated Trolley coaches being purchased by the San Francisco Municipal Railway. This trolley coach procurement currently is the only active trolley coach procurement in North America. Other procurements are forthcoming. The MUNI Articulated Trolley Coach Procurement is the first of its kind for both the transit property and the vehicle manufacturer. This is largely due to the fact that this vehicle includes some of the more recent technology in structure design and subsystem and propulsion equipment. This paper will provide an overview of the MUNI trolley coach system as well as address the technical features and testing of the vehicle structure, subsystems and propulsion
