Summary:
The sheet metal response to clamping was experimentally simulated using a special purpose, friction testing device. Draw Bead Simulation and rectangular geometry tests were used. The sheet response for electrogalvanized (EG) sheet steel was determined at a fast (200 in/min) and a slow (1 in/min) testing speeds. EG coated sheets showed significant sticking to the tooling, this effect was specially high when testing at slow speeds. The technique was then used to compare two EG coated to the same sheet substrate. Those coatings were reported to differ in their press performance.
