- Summary:
- A plastisol type poly vinyl chloride (PVC) adhesive has been developed for usage in fuel filters which are used on methanol fueled vehicles. The PVC adhesive was extensively tested to confirm it's performance under laboratory, engine dynamometer, and vehicle testing programs. The affect of chlorine ion desorption in the fuel and corrosion of metallic components of the fuel filter were investigated. Fuel filter specimens were disassembled after testing to assess the internal corrosion of components and stability of the PVC adhesive. Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrophotometer and Gel Permeation Chromatography instruments were used to measure factors of degradation of the PVC adhesive. The test results confirm that the newly developed PVC adhesive is suitable for use in fuel filters which will be installed in methanol fueled vehicles
