Summary:
A primary cause of engine component wear is contaminated lubricating oil. The accelerated wear engine tests described in this paper study the effect of different bypass oil cleaning systems on engine component wear and oil condition. The tests show that an oil cleaning centrifuge is more effective in reducing engine component wear than a pleated paper bypass filter. The decrease in component wear is a result of the centrifuge's ability to separate out and isolate from the oil system fine abrasive particles which cause wear
