- Summary:
- In the automotive sector, it is expected that every manufacturer has to reduce costs and improve quality. Producing a quality product is an exact science not discretionary or subject to arbitration. Using software on a CAD system, GD and T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) symbols can be verified to be correct against the ANSI Y14.5m standard for syntax and functionality. Softgauges (worst case CAD Model with tolerance zones) can then be created directly from the GD and T symbols imposed by the design engineer. The CMM can be programmed off-line from the same CAD model and the resultant CMM measured data can be compared to the Softgauge® for pass/fail analysis. Also accurate 3-D CAD models can be created from a physical part on the CMM. These CAD models can then be used to created NC programs to duplicate the physical parts
