- Summary:
- Any reconstruction of vehicular impact produces numerical data which forms a meaningful but abstract description of the event. As a better means of forensic presentation, the same data might be, with some augmentation, developed into an animation of the event. The most common impact event, the simple planar collision of one two-axle vehicle with another or with a fixed object, with possible spin due to impact, is the case treated by the widely accepted CRASH type of computer program. A specific CRASH-based reconstruction program recently has been augmented to accept additional data descriptive of the involved vehicles, the environment, some approach maneuvers, and an observer viewpoint. On completion of this specification a digital file results which, when suitably processed, will produce the animation without further operator input. The final processing is highly efficient because the animation is produced entirely by recorded command, without further human intervention. Such cost reduction makes animation affordable as a routine follow-on to reconstruction of the ordinary single or two-vehicle impact
