Summary:
An integrated circuit modular library designed specifically for tracking position and triggering ignition, injector, and variable valve outputs of an internal combustion engine has been developed in a mature standard cell CMOS technology for incorporation into electronic Engine Control Units (ECU). The modules are configured into an intelligent peripheral device that subsequently off-loads the ECU microprocessor of the many interrupts and calculations during engine operation. The resultant configuration of ECU microprocessor and intelligent peripheral yields a high throughput system that rivals the performance of RISC (Reduced Instruction Set Computer) based powertrain controller methodologies at a reduced total system cost
