Summary:
The three-way catalytic converter (TWC) is a vitally used catalyst over the others such as DOC, SCR et cetera because of stringent norms on emission. TWC has the capacity to perform the three-conversion process simultaneously. Health diagnosis and performance monitoring of TWC is a major responsibility of power-train control system. Strict pollution norms demand an efficient algorithm which can identify the malfunctioning of catalyst in pure conventional and hybrid vehicles. Thermal and chemical model of TWC is primarily required to design a model-based algorithm for state estimation and control. In catalyst modelling, the chemical species CO, THC, NOx, O2 and CO2 are the major components of redox reaction over the wash-coat surface and it impacts the overall conversion of the gases. Arrhenius equation based detailed chemical model is presented in that the proposed work. The pre-exponential factor and activation energy parameters for all possible reactions are optimized in the model using measured data of three-wheeler engine exhaust catalyst. The model depicts the aging of catalyst and oxygen storage capacity also using the active site density and dispersion factor of the wash-coat
