- Fuel cells are considered to be effective power production devices, which can be much suitable to produce electricity to store in the battery. This paper focuses on the review of PEM fuel cells for automotive applications. The materials and latest technologies of the fuel cell components are briefed. Various types of architecture and models of energy management system in the hybrid fuel cell electric vehicles are discussed with the reference in this paper. Different types of electrical machines and power converters are briefed and best suited for FCEV application is highlighted. The solution for the storage of hydrogen gas and the production of hydrogen gas instantly is explained in this paper. From the review, it is observed that these technologies have more or less analogous performers to the existing Internal combustion engines. Accordingly, current status and challenges have been discussed regarding hybrid fuel cell electric vehicle with brief suggestions for the progress of future research. This paper will be very much helpful for future research to increase the performance of the Hybrid Fuel cell electric vehicle
