- Summary:
- :Meeting vehicle dynamic performance is a critical requirement for product design and development. Automotive companies are under tremendous pressure to launch new vehicles within short duration because of customer's changing preferences. There is a necessity to have a comprehensive virtual simulation and robust validation process to ensure ride and handling performance of vehicle as per customer usage during architecture development. Test track and field test are two of the most time-consuming activities, so there is a need of simulation process to substitute these requirements in the initial stage of the project. This paper summarizes the overall process for Front loading vehicle dynamics requirements during basic architecture definition using virtual simulation.Based on benchmark vehicles, basic dimensions, CG, weight distribution and steer angle of the vehicle derived using concept calculations. Then detailed vehicle dynamics subjective and objective test data are measured for benchmark vehicles which is used to derive full vehicle ride and handling objective target based on subjective target. MATLAB driven internal calculator is used to produce sub system level target based on full vehicle objective target. Propose the new suspension (front and rear), steering and tire parameters based on proposed target. This proposed layout is used to derive the basic architecture of the vehicle. The study provides early design insights and flexibility to incorporate design changes required to meet the acceptable criteria in the initial phase of product development. This process is helping us to meet the vehicle dynamics performance target without any major tuning activity in the end of the project. Keywords: Front loading vehicle dynamics, Target cascading, Ride and Handling
