Summary:
To avoid frequent regeneration intervals leading to expeditiousageing of the catalyst and substantial fuel penalty for the driver,it is always desired to estimate the soot coming from dieselexhaust emission and the soot accumulated and burnt in the dieselparticulate filter. Certain applications and vehicle duty cyclecannot make use of the Delta pressure sensor for estimating thesoot loading in the DPF because of the limitations of the sensortolerance and measurement accuracy. The Physical soot model isalways active and hence a precise and more accurate model ispreferred to calibrate and optimize the regeneration interval. This paper presents the approach to estimate the engine out sootand the accumulated soot in the DPF using a graphical calculationmodel. The tool reduces the effort of driving different duty cyclesmultiple times on the testbed and recurrent vehicle trips for datacollection while calibrating the soot models, hence saving testbedcost, diesel cost and manpower efforts. Results were establishedover BSVI emission legislative cycles (WHTC) and vehicle dutycycles to ratify with the model generated data
